The Monster Behind the City Pothole

Spring is the peak of pothole season, and no one is immune to their sneaky destruction. Day to day, everyone runs into this monster known as the pothole. They wait until the last second to sneak up on an innocent driver, and then it’s too late. These little road gremlins stalk their pray with their dips, bumps, and sharp edges, waiting to get a grip on your tires.  They can cause damages from misalignment to a blown tire. While potholes are the tire’s sworn enemy, they aren’t going away any time soon.

The best way to defeat any enemy is to know the enemy. These little demons are initially made in the winter. Roads will freeze and thaw. This causes erosion of the dirt beneath the asphalt and diminishes the strength of the pavement. With additional traffic adding onto the erosion, the road begins to crumble and break. Craters then begin to form over time into something we know as the pothole.
